Making history for football in Guatemala

TransferRoom is now on the map in Guatemala after Xelajú MC became the first club from the Central American nation to join football’s only transfer marketplace.

The seven-time champions of Liga Nacional, who won the first phase title, the Apertura, in 2024, are one of the biggest clubs in Guatemala, and they’re focused heavily on developing young talent and investing in youth and grassroots football.

But being able to showcase their talents and attract interest from international clubs in the likes of 16-year-old current first-team winger Claudio de Oliveira and Elmer Cardoza, 22, has traditionally been difficult. As has getting access to the global transfer market.

López announced Xelajú's arrival on the platform in a press conference alongside TransferRoom's Sales Team Lead in the Americas, Diego Atuesta Pradilla (both pictured at the top of the page).

Guatemala is the latest Central American nation to be represented on TransferRoom, after Panama's Club Atlético Independiente de La Chorrera (CAI) and Honduras's Real CD España broke new ground for their countries by joining the marketplace.
