Why this Costa Rican club can now make their players available worldwide
by Jack Hyom

LD Alajuelense have made history for Costa Rica by joining TransferRoom, which allows them to offer their talents to over 700 clubs at the click of a button.

The platform is a great tool to make our players available on the market, for other teams from different markets to gain knowledge about them. Secondly, it allows us to get to know players at a global level, from whatever country or league, which will help us a lot for the planning of our squad in upcoming transfer windows.
Javier Santamaría
Sporting Director, Liga Deportiva Alajuelense

Making players available worldwide

For clubs from Central American leagues, being able to attract interest from high profile teams and competitions across the globe has traditionally been difficult. But developing homegrown talents and selling them for all-important revenue is key source of funds for the club’s development.

They would typically have a local network and lack access to global markets, as well as relying on agents or intermediaries to attract interest in their players. This in turn restricts market access and leaves them depending on third-party market intelligence, which can be unreliable.

But Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, one of the most successful sides in Costa Rica, are changing that by becoming the nation’s first-ever members of TransferRoom, world football’s online transfer marketplace.

They now get direct access to the key decision makers from more than 700 clubs in over 100 leagues across the globe and can advertise their players and see what those clubs are looking for in the transfer market through the TransferRoom platform.

They can also recruit from that global community of clubs, see their available players and understand clubs’ financial requirements. So they now get transparency and accurate, real-time intelligence from an unrivalled network in the transfer market.

Javier Santamaría, the Sporting Director at LD Alajuelense who joined from Club León in Mexico's Liga MX, which has a league-wide deal for all its clubs to be on TransferRoom, says in the video below: "It’s a big privilege to be part of the TransferRoom family, which I knew a bit from my time in Mexico.

"The importance for us is to be connected with football clubs at global level for our own market, but also for knowledge around international transfers and interesting players that we can find worldwide. Therefore, we are proud and satisfied to join."

"The platform is a great tool to make our players available on the market, for other teams from different markets to gain knowledge about them.

"Secondly, it allows us to get to know players at a global level, from whatever country or league, which will help us a lot for the planning of our squad in upcoming transfer windows.

"And the events, the virtual ones as much as the in-person ones, are a great opportunity for us to share knowledge about what LD Alajuelense is about.

"These are the three pillars which we think will help for the club to keep growing at international level."

LD Alajuelense have put another Central American country on the map on global football’s online marketplace.

Real Club Deportivo España from Honduras and Club Atlético Independiente de La Chorrera in Panama have also been trailblazers for Central American football by becoming their nations’ first members on TransferRoom.

LD Alajuelense will be able to join hundreds of clubs from across the globe at TransferRoom Summits, held a few times a year in different locations around the world. The next one is in Lisbon & Online from 13-15 November 2023. Register here now to avoid missing out.
