Widzew Łódź aim to continue rapid rise on TransferRoom
by Jack Hyom
Widzew Łódź have joined TransferRoom in a bid to take their transfer business to the next level and elevate their dealings in some of Europe's biggest leagues.
It's an opportunity to build relationships at a different level. As a club owner, I get the chance to meet some interesting people as well, and to get better knowledge of the football community and of ownerships at clubs.
Tomasz Stamirowski
Owner, Widzew Łódź

Based in the city of Łódź, the club have won two promotions over the last three seasons, culminating in finishing second in I liga last season to secure a return to the Ekstraklasa league for the first time since 2013-14.

They will now get direct access to more than 650 clubs from 100 leagues across 60 countries globally, as well as gaining real-time intelligence, as the latest Polish club on the platform.

Tomasz Stamirowski, Owner of Widzew Łódź, has previously attended TransferRoom Summits in person, and says the breadth of data for scouting players and the opportunity to connect with a global network of clubs are the big attractions of joining the platform.

“We know TransferRoom, we've participated in in-person events a couple of times,” Stamirowski says. “It's an opportunity to build relationships and we plan to use it in scouting as a tool, in our marketplace. It's very useful.

Building on transfer success

Astute recruitment and management of the squad’s value has been a key part of the club’s success over the last few years.

Last season, they only paid a transfer fee for one signing, with a raft of free transfers including their two top scorers in 2021-22, Bartosz Guzdek and Bartlomiej Pawlowski.

Most of their business was done in Poland, neighbouring countries such as Romania and Slovakia and the lower divisions in Spain and Portugal, but Stamirowski believes that TransferRoom can help the club recruit players from Europe’s major leagues and to elevate their dealings in their home leagues and surrounding countries.

“The markets that are of the most interest for us are stronger leagues, like in Germany, Spain, Portugal, sometimes from the second national level,” he adds. “That is one part.

“The second, which are neighbourhood markets we can have a competitive advantage in, like Slovakia, Czech Republic, Romania. It's a combination of the strong leagues and leagues in local markets.”
