We want to lead change in Tanzania: Azam FC join TransferRoom in landmark move
by Jack Hyom

One of Tanzania’s top clubs, Azam are now on world football’s transfer marketplace, in an ambitious move to grow their international reputation and open up global opportunities.

Azam FC has joined TransferRoom as a key step in our internationalisation strategy. As a club with strong ambition and a clear plan for development, we see TransferRoom as the ideal partner to help us open new doors, strengthen our global visibility and position Azam FC within the wider football ecosystem.
Octavi Anoro
CEO, Azam FC

Putting Tanzania on the map

For clubs in Africa, especially those outside the top traditional exporters of elite talent, such as Nigeria, Morocco and Egypt, building a global reputation in football is very difficult.

And so is landing opportunities to recruit players internationally, and to drive interest in your top talents from Europe and beyond.

That is a challenge faced by Azam FC in Tanzania.

They are former Tanzanian Premier League champions and one of the biggest clubs in Tanzania, but they have not yet sold a club to a club outside of Africa, and as a club formed in 2005, they are still building their international footprint.

But they have ambitious plans and a bold internationalisation strategy, and they have now made a landmark first move that will open up global opportunities like never before.

Azam FC have become the first Tanzanian club to join TransferRoom, world football’s transfer marketplace.

The online platform, launched in 2017 and now used by over 800 clubs and 550 Trusted Agencies in more than 130 leagues, allows football decision-makers to contact each other directly, pitch players to clubs of their choice and receive player offers, see player availability and a wealth of real-time market intelligence including squad requirements, performance stats and metrics such as Expected Transfer Value (xTV).

By gaining access to TransferRoom, Azam FC now have the world at their fingertips. Their CEO, Octavi Anoro, explains why they have joined.

Exclusive interview with Azam FC's CEO, Octavi Anoro

Why has Azam decided to join TransferRoom?
“Azam FC has joined TransferRoom as a key step in our internationalisation strategy. As a club with strong ambition and a clear plan for development, we see TransferRoom as the ideal partner to help us open new doors, strengthen our global visibility and position Azam FC within the wider football ecosystem. This is a decisive first move in our goal to build meaningful international relationships. It is also our way of being pioneers in Tanzania and turning this into a competitive advantage over our rivals. We want to lead change in our country and across Africa.”

What are the benefits that the TransferRoom platform offers to help Azam?
“TransferRoom provides exactly what we need at this stage of our growth: A) direct access to a global network of clubs, B) a new window to showcase our (young) players, C) real-time data, and D) exclusive market insights. For us, it’s a powerful tool that supports professionalization by combining contacts, information, and opportunities in one place. It will allow us to make informed decisions faster and to connect directly with clubs around the world without intermediaries.”

What are the opportunities TransferRoom now presents that Azam didn’t have before?
“Before joining TransferRoom, our access to international markets was limited by geography and lack of direct networks. Now we can: present our players to clubs across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas; explore new partnerships; monitor market trends with reliable data; promote our academy as a key talent hub in East Africa. In short, TransferRoom gives us opportunities that were previously out of reach for a Tanzanian club.”

As a club based in Tanzania, how difficult is it to have global relationships that TransferRoom is now able to help with?
“For African clubs (especially those outside the traditional exporting markets) building global relationships is extremely challenging. Distance, visibility and limited access to networks often make it difficult. With TransferRoom, this barrier is removed. We now have a direct line to hundreds of clubs and decision-makers worldwide, allowing us to showcase our work, promote our players and build long-term football relationships faster and more efficiently than ever before."

What is your message to anyone who isn’t on TransferRoom?
“We believe that TransferRoom will not be just a digital tool; it will be a strategic platform that accelerates growth, visibility, and opportunities. We understand that if you want to expand your network, make better decisions, and position your club on the global stage, this is where you need to be. For us at Azam FC, it’s already becoming an essential part of our professionalisation and internationalisation journey.”

TR Live is coming to Africa

Azam FC will also get to meet 100s of football club and agency executives from Africa, Europe and beyond at TransferRoom Live in Rabat, Morocco, on 22nd December 2025.

TransferRoom hosts a series of in-person events around the world, where 100s of clubs and agencies meet for speed-dating style one-to-one meetings, transfer talks, exclusive networking and market insights. The event comes to Africa for the first time, in the nation hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. See more details here.
