FC Dallas took advantage of Plus Pitch tool to directly target clubs in the home country of a Hungarian international. Within hours, they knew they had a deal on their hands.
We knew where we wanted to offer the player. When we have that kind of tool [the Plus Pitch], we can target clubs from a specific place where we think he’ll get more attention.
When FC Dallas and Szabolcs Schön came to an agreement that his time in Major League Soccer would come to an end, there was only one country the Hungarian international wanted to go to.
With very few contacts and relationships in Hungary, FC Dallas used the Plus Pitch tool on TransferRoom to target a select number of clubs in the country, alerting them to the winger’s availability.
Within hours, MOL Fehérvár FC had declared interest in Schön.
For Schön, it meant a return home to improve his prospects with the national team.
For FC Dallas, the deal ticked multiple boxes. They:
- were able to grant their player’s wishes;
- received a larger transfer fee by pitching him to clubs that were well aware of his profile, but not his availability; and
- dealt directly with clubs in a market where, without any contacts, they would previously have had to rely on costly middlemen.
FC Dallas's Chief Soccer Officer and Technical Director Andre Zanotta, pictured at a TransferRoom Summit, explains in the video below: “We knew where we wanted to offer the player. When we have that kind of tool [the Plus Pitch], we can target clubs from a specific place where we think he’ll get more attention.”
He added: “We try to follow important leagues in Eastern Europe, but we didn’t have many contacts with clubs in that area. With TransferRoom it facilitated us to have contact with those clubs [in Hungary] and in the end we got a deal done which was good for everybody.”
