France squad priced at €1.46B lead the global rankings as TransferRoom’s Expected Transfer Value (xTV) highlights football’s most expensive national team squads in this summer's FIFA World Cup.
TransferRoom’s Expected Transfer Value metric is designed to capture the intersection of what price the selling club could achieve for the player and what price a buying club should expect to be paying.
France top of the pile
For one month, the World Cup becomes football’s ultimate shop window.
Established superstars defend their status, emerging talents announce themselves to the world.
TransferRoom, football’s transfer marketplace and decision intelligence platform, now reveals the most valuable squads at the FIFA World Cup based on its proprietary Expected Transfer Value (xTV) model.
The rankings measure the combined transfer value of each national team squad using TransferRoom’s industry-leading xTV methodology – a real-time valuation model designed to estimate what it would cost to sign a player in today’s market.
According to the latest analysis, France enters the tournament with the highest total squad xTV at €1.46B ahead of Spain and England.
Brazil, the most successful nation in World Cup history with five titles, ranks sixth on the list.
Lionel Messi and the defending champions Argentina start the World Cup with the eighth most valuable squad.
Erling Haaland and his Norwegian teammates also make the list, coming in at No. 10.

The teams ranked 11-20 can be found below which includes joint-hosts USA in no. 20.

While Mexico and Canada find themselves 26th & 29th on our list, respectively.

World Cup debutants Uzbekistan and Cape Verde Islands will be looking to upset a few nations this tournament and they are ranked 37th and 39th, respectively.

Finally, 2022 FIFA World Cup hosts Qatar are listed as having the lowest-valued squad across all 48 teams in the competition with a total squad value of €13.5m.

TransferRoom’s xTV differs from traditional market value estimates by combining performance data with real-world transfer dynamics, including contract length, age, club financial strength, transfer benchmarks and current market demand.
TransferRoom’s xTV model evaluates more than 200,000 players globally and is used by clubs, agents and executives to benchmark player values and support transfer decision-making.
TransferRoom's Director of Data Intelligence Dan Blades explains more:
“Rather than being purely an indicator of player ability, xTV is a measure of the value of the player's registration to the club they are currently playing for, under free market conditions.
“It is designed to capture the intersection of what price the selling club could achieve for the player and what price a buying club should expect to be paying.”
