Tottenham return to Sporting Director model with Paratici hire
by Jonathan Rest

Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Italian Fabio Paratici as Managing Director of Football.

I've known Fabio for a number of years and he brings with him a wealth of experience in scouting, youth and football operations. He has an outstanding track record in assembling competitive squads. As we all know, Juventus have been a highly successful club and he has been a major part of that. He will be a great addition to the management structure.
Daniel Levy
Chairman, Tottenham Hotspur

Paratici joins from Juventus and his hire marks a return to the sporting director model that Tottenham scrapped six years ago.

Paratici officially joins the English Premier League club next month and will be responsible for managing and developing the sporting operations, facilities and footballing infrastructure.

He spent 11 years at Juventus in technical and scouting roles, and had been Managing Director, Football since October 2020.

Tottenham have not had a Sporting Director since Franco Baldini left in September 2015 after two years. Prior to that, Damien Comolli held the role between 2005 and 2008.

Since Baldini's exit, recruitment has been led by chairman Daniel Levy and Technical Performance Director Steve Hitchin, as well as the first team managers.

Paratici spent 15 years as a player in Serie B and C, and began his post-playing career as Scouting Manager at Sampdoria, eventually becoming Head of the Technical Area at the club.

Levy said: “I've known Fabio for a number of years and he brings with him a wealth of experience in scouting, youth and football operations. He has an outstanding track record in assembling competitive squads. As we all know, Juventus have been a highly successful club and he has been a major part of that. He will be a great addition to the management structure.”

Paratici added: “I am thrilled by this fantastic opportunity and I thank the Club and the Chairman for the trust in me. Tottenham is one of the top clubs in the UK and in Europe with an ambitious long-term plan. I will dedicate all myself to this new venture and look forward to working with the management team to write a new and hopefully successful chapter in the Club history.”

Earlier this month, Juventus' On Loan Players Manager and U23 Team Coordinator, Claudio Chiellini, left to take up the Sporting Director role at Serie B's Pisa SC.

At Juventus, Paratici and Chiellini used Juventus to give the club an even bigger reach in the transfer market.
