Feyenoord and vastly experienced executive Frank Arnesen have reached an agreement to terminate his contract as Technical Director with immediate effect.
I am proud of what we have achieved together over the past two-and-a-half years and we are therefore separating in a positive way. I understand very well that at Feyenoord they have to think about the future. Nobody is bigger than the club after all.
The Dane had been on sick leave since the end of June to recover from an infection in his knee, but the two parties have now decided to part ways permanently.
Arnesen joined Feyenoord in January 2020 and earlier this year signed a new contract until the end of the 2022-23 season.
During his tenure the club reached the final of the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League in 2021-22, and qualified for this year's UEFA Europa League.
Arnesen, 65, said: "I am proud of what we have achieved together over the past two-and-a-half years and we are therefore separating in a positive way. I understand very well that at Feyenoord they have to think about the future. Nobody is bigger than the club after all."
Feyenoord are in no hurry to replace Arnesen.
General Manager Dennis te Kloese said: "There is no need, because the transfer window has ended and, after Frank's resignation, we have already set up a division of labour recently that can continue for a while. Moreover, many things are in good shape on the football side. This is certainly also due to Frank's efforts."
Arnesen is one of the most respected Technical Directors in the game, having also held the post at the likes of PSV Eindhoven, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, HSV Hamburg, PAOK Thessaloniki and Anderlecht.
TransferRoom proved a key tool for Arnesen when he joined Feyenoord, with the Rotterdam-based club having made losses in the transfer market in the years prior to his arrival.
