Polish top-flight club Śląsk Wrocław have terminated the contract of Sporting Director Dariusz Sztylka with immediate effect.
We joined TransferRoom at the end of July. Like many other clubs, AEK Athens had cash-flow problems due to Covid19, and we were looking to sell players to gain some income. On TransferRoom, we learned that FC Copenhagen were looking for a centre back.
Sztylka spent five years as Sporting Director with the Ekstraklasa club, and previously held roles with the academy.
During his time as Sporting Director, Śląsk generated over €6.5m in transfer profits from sales of the likes of Przemysław Płacheta to Norwich City and Mateusz Praszelik to Hellas Verona.
The 44-year-old, who ended his playing career with Śląsk in 2012, leaves the club in 14th place, just three points above the relegation zone.
A Wrocław native, he said: "In this last role I have gathered a lot of experience, both good and difficult ones. We started with a fight for relegation, but after a break of several years we returned to the game for top places in Ekstraklasa, including appearances in European cups. Some players finished their careers in Silesia, others set out into the world, leaving for record money to reputable foreign leagues."
Śląsk, like all clubs in the Ekstraklasa, have access to TransferRoom through a multi-year, league-wide deal.
