Slavia Prague in safe hands with new MD of Sport Kovar
by Jonathan Rest
SK Slavia Prague's former goalkeeper Premysl Kovar has started his role as the club's Managing Director, Sport.
I am aware that this is a very ambitious goal in the face of tough competition from our rivals, and therefore we need to strengthen not only within the A-team, but also within the management of SKS.
Jaroslav Tvrdík
Chairman,
SK Slavia Prague
The 37-year-old goalkeeper retired from playing at the end of 2022, and immediately has taken on a leading role with the Czech club.
Kovar joined Slavia as a back-up goalkeeper in 2017 from Bulgarian club Cherno More.
He has been appointed by the Slavia Board of Directors, which has set the club's management a target of winning either the league title or national cup in 2023 to ensure qualification into European competition.
The Board has also been strengthened with the appointments of Yansong Liu, Strategic Director of CITIC Europe Holdings (majority shareholder of the club), and Martin Riha, former Slavia General Secretary.
Jaroslav Tvrdík, Chairman of the Board, said: "I am aware that this is a very ambitious goal in the face of tough competition from our rivals, and therefore we need to strengthen not only within the A-team, but also within the management of SKS."
Kovar is a former Slavia team-mate of Jiri Bilek, now the club's Sporting Director, who uses TransferRoom on a regular basis to be more successful in the transfer market.
