FC Blau-Weiss Linz have announced the appointment of their retiring player Christoph Schößwendter as the club's new Sporting Director.
He knows the club, the people involved, the game idea and position requirements, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the current players, and can therefore start planning the squad immediately.
The 34-year-old defender (pictured above, centre), who has been with the Austrian second-tier club since January 2022, has decided to call time on his playing career and will take over from Tino Wawra this summer, ahead of the 2023-24 season. He will work with Wawra during a handover period to ensure a smooth transition.
Schößwendter, having played for Union Berlin and SK Rapid Vienna among other clubs, brings extensive experience of international football and will draw on his knowledge of the Austeian Bundesliga and Second Football League, in which Blau-Weiss Linz are in second position.
He has also completed a Master's degree in Business and Sports Management and his UEFA B diploma ahead of transitioning into his first executive role.
Christoph Peschek, Managing Director of FC Blau-Weiss Linz, said: "He knows the club, the people involved, the game idea and position requirements, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the current players, and can therefore start planning the squad immediately."
Schößwendter added: "Anyone who knows me as a player knows that the success of the team or the club is always my top priority. I will do everything in my power to support the team, the coaching staff and the club in the best possible way in continuing our successful sporting path."
