Former Netherlands international Joris Mathijsen has been named as the Technical Director of ADO Den Haag.
With Joris we bring someone to the club who has been through everything as a player and Technical Director. His strong track record, not only as a footballer, but also as a Technical Manager, makes him the ideal candidate to further develop the club.
Mathijsen, who won 84 caps for his country and helped them reach the 2010 FIFA World Cup final, retired in 2015 after a club career including spells at AZ Alkmaar, Hamburger SV, Malaga CF and Feyenoord.
A year later he returned to his first professional club, Willem II, as Technical Manager and then Technical Director.
In six successful years with Willem II, he helped the club finish fifth in the Eredivisie as they remained in the top flight until his departure in March 2022.
"I have accepted the challenge to bring ADO Den Haag back to where it belongs, Mathijsen said.
"I especially want to look forward to the coming season. It will take a lot of work and dedication to compete for promotion.
"In the background we are already working hard on putting together a balanced selection and staff.”
Shareholder representative Ignacio Beristain added: “With Joris we bring someone to the club who has been through everything as a player and Technical Director. His strong track record, not only as a footballer, but also as a Technical Manager, makes him the ideal candidate to further develop the club."
Den Haag finished 12th in Eerste Divisie, Netherlands' second tier this season.
One of the clubs promoted from the league to the Eredivisie was PEC Zwolle, with Mark Coonen explaining how they chose to invest in their recruitment strategy and innovate by renewing and upgrading their TransferRoom membership and taking their use of the platform to a new level.
