Tiago Lenho has been appointed as the new Sporting Director of C.S. Maritimo, sparking a series of changes at Portuguese clubs.
To Tiago Lenho, the club wishes the best of luck in his personal and professional life, and thanks him for his unquestionable professionalism, from the first to the last day. We also recognise the decisive role he played in the growth of our team, namely in reaching European competitions.
Lenho (main picture), 34, joins from Gil Vicente, where he had been Sporting Director since July 2018, and is considered one of most exciting young executives in Portuguese football.
Gil Vicente are making their debut in European competition this season, after qualifying for the UEFA Europa Conference League.
From Vizela to Vicente
The Sporting Director vacancy at Gil Vicente has been filled by Pedro Albergaria (pictured below), who has left another Primeira Liga side, FC Vizela.
The former goalkeeper, 41, joined Vizela in 2014 and following his retirement as a player in 2019 became the Sporting Director. During his time there, Vizela won their first promotion to the Portuguese top-flight in 2021.
In a statement, Gil Vicente said: "Gil Vicente wishes Pedro Albergaria all the best, because his success will be the success of the club.
"To Tiago Lenho, the club wishes the best of luck in his personal and professional life, and thanks him for his unquestionable professionalism, from the first to the last day. We also recognise the decisive role he played in the growth of our team, namely in reaching European competitions."
New Vizela owners act quickly
Vizela have been taken over by a Malaysian investment fund in recent weeks, with Joaquim Ribeiro representing the new owners as President of the club.
Valter Vieira, a former team manager at Vitória FC, has been named as the new Sporting Director to replace Albergaria, while Manuel Sousa, a highly-rated scout who left Pacos de Ferreira at the end of last season, has been hired to lead Vizela's scouting department.
