Victor Orta has been sacked as the Director of Football at Leeds United, with the club making key changes in a bid to preserve their Premier League status.
I am deeply saddened by the way that this chapter closes as Victor has been responsible for some of the best moments of my time as owner of Leeds United and I thank him and his people for all they have done in the past six years.
Leeds have parted company with the 44-year-old after Sunday’s 4-1 loss at AFC Bournemouth leaves them in 17th place and above the relegation zone on goal difference.
They have also appointed Sam Allardyce as Manager until the end of the season, having dismissed Javi Gracia despite being appointed in February.
Orta arrived at Leeds in May 2017 and oversaw the club’s promotion to the Premier League in 2019-20, ending a 16-year absence from the top flight.
Owner Andrea Radrizzani said: “I am deeply saddened by the way that this chapter closes as Victor has been responsible for some of the best moments of my time as owner of Leeds United and I thank him and his people for all they have done in the past six years.
“However, it is clear that it is time to change direction and therefore we have agreed that Victor will leave the club."
The Spaniard has been a regular user of TransferRoom in that time, doing five deals in one summer as they moved up to the Premier League and secured safety on their return.
Previously, Orta was Director of Football at Middlesbrough, following key executive roles at Elche CF, Zenit St Petersburg and Sevilla.
