How Sandefjord Fotball used TransferRoom's Predictive Requirements to secure a club-record sale

Sporting Director Matteus Bårdsen helped identify the perfect buying club for striker Stefán Ingi Sigurðarson, leading to Sandefjord's biggest-ever transfer departure.

Using TransferRoom to identify the right buyer 

 

Finding the right buyer is often just as important as finding the right player.

For Norwegian club Sandefjord Fotball, that challenge became much easier thanks to TransferRoom and its data intelligence.

 

When the club identified striker Stefán Ingi Sigurðarson as a possible sale to generate a profit during this year's Winter Window, Sporting Director Matteus Bårdsen turned to TransferRoom's Predicted Requirements to identify clubs most likely to be in the market for a forward matching the player's profile and valuation.

 

Predicted Requirements take anticipating transfer market movements and a club's next opportunity to a new level by using AI-driven analytics to identify patterns in club recruitment strategies.
 
By analysing the tactical styles of Head Coaches, squad compositions, player availability, historical transfer trends and more, the system predicts what clubs will need before they even announce a signing and aligns these predictions to a their player's portfolio.

 

By using the data, one club immediately stood out for Sandefjord Fotball: Dutch Eredivisie side, Go Ahead Eagles.

 

TransferRoom's Predicted Requirements suggested they were likely to recruit a striker during the upcoming window. Bårdsen also knew the club had previously watched Sigurðarson, making them an ideal target.

 

Rather than waiting for the market to develop, Sandefjord acted.

 

As Bårdsen explains: "The club had already scouted the player, so it wasn't that TransferRoom created the deal. But using Predicted Requirements, I was able to reach out with a pitch so they could see that we were open to selling and understand the price."


Messaging via TransferRoom, Bårdsen contacted Go Ahead Eagles directly, outlining that the club was open to selling Sigurðarson and providing an indication of the expected transfer fee.

Several conversations followed, before discussions continued outside the platform, eventually resulting in a club-record €2.7 million transfer.

 

Sigurðarson went on to make 14 appearances for his new side after his move in February, finding the net on three occasions.

Reflecting on the process, Bårdsen says the platform delivers value on both the buying and selling side of recruitment.
