Wisła Płock Sporting Director Łukasz Stupka and Footleet Agency founder Pedro Lopes share how a single in-person introduction at TransferRoom LIVE: Deal Day in Madrid laid the foundation for the dual signings of Afonso Silva and Sidnei Tavares.
We didn't have a scheduled meeting with Wisła Płock, and the introduction happened during the event. The TransferRoom team connected us directly with Łukasz and that single introduction opened the door to everything that followed.
Turning an Introduction into Instant Action
In the global transfer market, timing, direct access, and personal trust can transform a single conversation into a defining transfer window.
For Polish side Wisła Płock and Portuguese agency Footleet, that turning point arrived at TransferRoom LIVE: Deal Day in Madrid last August.
The unexpected encounter would pave the way for two major summer arrivals in Poland: rising young centre-back Afonso Silva from F.C. Felgueiras, followed swiftly by the loan move for midfielder Sidnei Tavares from Blackburn Rovers.
Neither side entered the event with a scheduled meeting on their agenda. However, when TransferRoom staff introduced Wisła Płock Sporting Director Łukasz Stupka to Footleet founder Pedro Lopes around an impromptu exchange evolved into an exhaustive 15-hour discussion across two days.
"TransferRoom was absolutely fundamental," explains Pedro Lopes, Founder and Owner of Footleet Agency.
"We didn't have a scheduled meeting with Wisła Płock, and the introduction happened naturally during the event. The TransferRoom team connected us directly with Łukasz and that single introduction opened the door to everything that followed."

Łukasz Stupka recalls the immediate alignment:
"Afonso Silva – what a story! I had him highlighted as a potential move for Wisła Płock when we had our discussions for my position as Sporting Director," he said.
"The factor which made the transfer possible was meeting his agent, Pedro Lopes, in person at the TransferRoom Deal Day in Madrid. We were introduced by Adrian [Peterson] and Diogo [Reino da Costa] from TransferRoom and proceeded to spend over 15 hours on discussions, allowing me to understand how he would like to develop Afonso’s career."
Inside the 15-Hour Madrid Meeting
Over that 15-hour discussion in Madrid, the Footleet team - led by Lopes alongside partner Rui Guimarães and Stupka dug into every granular detail: match footage, GPS performance metrics, psychological profiles, and training footage.
They even facilitated a live call between Stupka and the player to evaluate the person behind the footballer.
That human connection proved decisive when competing interests threatened the deal. Silva was fielding lucrative offers from clubs across the world, while some members of Wisła Płock's technical staff initially questioned his physical profile.

"In Afonso's case, we had to overcome questions about his physical profile and make a difficult decision between competing opportunities," says Lopes.
"Perhaps the biggest challenge for Footleet was accepting that we would have to walk away from other offers that were financially more attractive. But we believed in the sporting project, in the people behind it, and in the opportunity it represented for Afonso. Before we left Madrid, Wisła Płock had already made their first offer."

Stupka credits the direct relationship with overcoming those hurdles:
"From my perspective, I told him what we can offer as a club. It was not easy, especially with several much higher offers from Japan, Romania, or Greece. In the end, I can say I wish every agent was like Pedro and Footleet.
"Speaking with Pedro and his partner Rui Guimarães helped me convince Afonso to choose Wisła Płock. I strongly believe Afonso will be a player for the senior national team of Portugal in the future and a vital part of Wisła Płock's history."
From Single Deal to Lasting Partnership: The Sidnei Tavares Move
The trust built during that Madrid event did not stop with Silva.
As Silva quickly established himself as a standout centre-back in Poland, that recently-formed rapport created an immediate pathway for the second signing: midfielder Sidnei Tavares on loan from Blackburn Rovers.
"The transfer of Sidnei Tavares came later, as a direct consequence of the relationship and trust we had built with Wisła Płock," Lopes explains. "When the possibility of signing Sidnei emerged, many believed the transfer would be impossible due to the financial demands.
"Our responsibility was to convince Sidnei that Wisła Płock was the right sporting project, while Łukasz worked hard to reach an agreement with Blackburn Rovers.
The first deal created an opportunity; the trust you build determines whether it becomes a long-term relationship."

Stupka adds:
"Sidnei Tavares was a player we were looking for, and the coach selected him from three final options. He also had much higher salary offers elsewhere, but working with Pedro was a pleasure.
"I treat Pedro as a friend, leaning on his knowledge and advice well beyond standard negotiations."
For clubs and agencies alike, TransferRoom eliminates intermediary clutter and opens closed markets.
By connecting directly, Wisła Płock bypassed third-party speculation, saving vital financial resources and time while conducting direct due diligence.
"TransferRoom has helped me recruit two excellent players," notes Stupka.
"Moreover, it allowed me to connect directly with much bigger clubs to understand player availability and market conditions.
How much time and money did it save? A lot - primarily because so many intermediaries wanted to approach this deal."
For Footleet, the platform serves as an accelerator for his role and encourages other agencies to take note.
"For an ambitious agency looking to expand internationally, access to decision-makers is extremely valuable," says Lopes.
"TransferRoom bridges that gap. It gives you visibility, facilitates communication, and creates opportunities in markets that might otherwise be difficult to enter.
By using the platform or attending their events, you never know which conversation might change the future of your agency or the career of one of your players."
