Hibernian seek transfer market expert to fill Director of Football void
by Jonathan Rest

Scottish Premiership club Hibernian FC have begun the search for a new Director of Football.

I have worked with Directors of Football before, so I have a full understanding of the difference they can make. This decision was made following a thorough review that has taken place over the last few months, and the Board was unanimously behind making this appointment.
Ben Kensell
CEO, Hibernian FC

The Edinburgh-based club said it is seeking an individual with:

  • Knowledge of Scottish football
  • Experience of working at a senior level at a high performing club
  • Extensive contacts within the game
  • A strong background in implementing strategy and bringing sporting success

The Director of Football will be responsible for all areas of football support at the Hibernian Training Centre, including the Academy and development, analysis, football administration, medical, player care, recruitment, and strength and conditioning and will review all of football operations.

The successful candidate will work closely with CEO Ben Kensell (pictured) and Manager Lee Johnson "to improve the club’s sporting performance."

Kensell said: “I have worked with Directors of Football before, so I have a full understanding of the difference they can make. This decision was made following a thorough review that has taken place over the last few months, and the board was unanimously behind making this appointment.

“We want someone with a recruitment bias, they need to have experience in that area. I need someone with knowledge in the Scottish game. I want them to have worked with and for big clubs in senior positions, and I want that football expertise.”

Hibernian's work in the transfer market has been handled by Kensell and Head of Recruitment Ian Gordon since Sporting Director Graeme Mathie left the club in 2021.

Mathie is now Managing Director of Ayr United.

Hibernian were one of the most active clubs on TransferRoom in the last transfer window, completing six transfers on the platform in the summer of 2022.
