FC Dallas: How we are streamlining recruitment with TransferRoom Scout
by Greg Stubley

Director of Scouting Leonardo Baldo reveals why FC Dallas chose TransferRoom Scout and how the platform is helping the MLS side centralise operations, eliminate administrative tasks, and connect scouting directly to the global marketplace.

The ability to customise the report templates easily and on our own - without having to go through product teams - is huge. The option to tag players and assign to scouts is something that works much better on TransferRoom Scout than other platforms.

Centralising First Team and Academy scouting

For Major League Soccer clubs, building a sustainable roster requires a seamless pipeline between the academy and the first team. But managing scouting data across different age groups and squads often leads to fragmented communication.

FC Dallas wanted a single ecosystem to manage their entire scouting operation.

Having already integrated TransferRoom into their workflow, adopting TransferRoom Scout was the natural next step to align their whole talent pathway.

"We chose TransferRoom Scout to centralise our scouting within the same platform for both academy and first team," Director of Scouting Leonardo Baldo explains.

"The ability to work with the team to create features that we needed was a huge bonus, along with the ability to connect it to the marketplace, a tool we use heavily."

In modern recruitment, software usability directly impacts how effectively scouts record their findings. Fragmented reports hidden in spreadsheets or WhatsApp group chats make it easy for prospective targets to fall through the cracks.

TransferRoom Scout gives FC Dallas full authority over how they structure player evaluations, while giving their scouting network an intuitive interface.

"The ability to customise the report templates easily and on our own - without having to go through product teams - is huge," Baldo says.

"The overall product has a much cleaner UI than most platforms. The option to tag players and assign to scouts is something that works much better on TransferRoom Scout than other platforms."

Crucially, the platform creates direct alignment between on-pitch assessments and financial realities.

"The biggest benefit is the control of information," Baldo notes. "Everything is stored in a way that can be accessed much more easily along with the direct connection to financial information.

"It will help keep scouts accountable and ensure players stay on the radar throughout the scouting process. Rather than using WhatsApp or spreadsheets to keep track of information, having a platform like TransferRoom Scout will make everything easier."

Saving time to speed up decision-making

By replacing disjointed spreadsheets and message threads with a streamlined platform, FC Dallas' recruitment team is set to save significant time in their day-to-day roles.

"It will likely save 5 to 10 hours a week of cleaning and processing reports," Baldo estimates.

That extra time allows the recruitment department to focus on higher-value tasks: evaluating prospects, and managing shortlists.

"I plan on using it for our first team and academy scouting, assigning scouts to matches and players, plus controlling our shortlists," Baldo says. "It is a really good alternative for clubs that want to focus on the storage of information and need a tool that efficiently does the job."

For clubs already utilizing TransferRoom’s global marketplace, adding Scout creates a single home for the entire recruitment lifecycle—from initial identification down to the final deal parameters.

"It is a great tool to include if TransferRoom is already a major part of your workflow," Baldo concludes. "It will save time and effort by having everything in the same place, so we can make decisions on players much quicker."
