Republic of Ireland's Bohemian FC and Dundalk FC have announced major changes in their football operations departments.
The Director of Football role is something the board has given careful consideration to in recent months. With the move to full-time training for the men’s first team, the growth of the academy and continued investment in our women’s team, it makes sense to have a football person overseeing those operations. In Pat, we believe we have the ideal candidate.
Pat Fenlon joins Bohemian as Director of Football from Linfield, in Northern Ireland, where he had been General Manager since 2018.
It is his third spell at the club having served as a player between 1991 and 1994, winning the FA Ireland Cup, and as first-team manager from 2008 and 2011.
He has previously been Manager of Scottish side Hibernian and another Irish side, Shamrock Rovers, as well as the Director of Football at Waterford.
Bohemian FC President Matt Devaney added: “The Director of Football role is something the board has given careful consideration to in recent months. With the move to full-time training for the men’s first team, the growth of the academy and continued investment in our women’s team, it makes sense to have a football person overseeing those operations.
“In Pat, we believe we have the ideal candidate with a wealth of experience for the role and we are delighted he has agreed to come on board.”
Bohemian FC's League of Ireland rivals Dundalk FC, meanwhile, have appointed Brian Gartland as Head of Football Operations.
Gartland, who only retired as a player from Dundalk in December, will work closely with the club’s owners, board and head coach Stephen O’Donnell on all aspects of football-related activities, including player recruitment, scouting, analysis, technical and medical support, player welfare and planning.
Dundalk FC have found success on the TransferRoom platform making direct connections with major clubs across Europe.
