Matt Crocker, the former Director of Football Operations at Southampton, is leaving the club and taking up the role of Sporting Director at the U.S. Soccer Federation.
He is an experienced leader and has had success at the professional and National Team level. As we continue to build and strengthen U.S. Soccer, we are confident that Matt’s leadership will be instrumental in helping us achieve our goals.
He has been at Southampton for close to 10 years across two spells either side of being Head of Development Teams for The Football Association in England from 2013 to 2020.
From 2006 to 2013 at Southampton, Crocker played a key role in the club's development of future international stars such as Gareth Bale, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Luke Shaw, and James Ward-Prowse. Previously he was Cardiff City's Academy Director.
As Sporting Director, Crocker will be responsible for overseeing U.S. Soccer's entire Sporting Department, with a focus on the Men's and Women's National Team programs, Youth National Teams, and the Extended National Teams.
U.S. Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone said: “He is an experienced leader and has had success at the professional and National Team level. As we continue to build and strengthen U.S. Soccer, we are confident that Matt’s leadership will be instrumental in helping us achieve our goals."
“I am honored and excited to join U.S. Soccer as the new Sporting Director,” said Crocker. “This is a tremendous opportunity to build an elite program and to help raise the level of soccer in the United States."
Crocker will officially start his role during the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, but will begin working full-time in August.
