Real Betis are on the look out for a new Sporting Director from 2023-24 after Antonio Cordón announced his planned departure.
I came to contribute my grain of sand, which for some will have been less and for others it will have been more. I think I'm happy with my job. I promised that we were going to wake up the giant and we have done it together. It's a very nice goal accomplished.
Cordón (pictured second from the right) has been in the post with the La Liga club since June 2020, but will leave at the end of the season, citing personal reasons.
He is a former Sporting Director of Villarreal, AS Monaco and the Ecuador Football Federation.
Cordón said: "It is a thoughtful decision, agreed with the family. It is a concern that I had and I transferred it to the club at the time. It is not due to any clash with anyone on the Board of Directors, nor the players, nor the coach."
He continued: "I came to contribute my grain of sand, which for some will have been less and for others it will have been more. I think I'm happy with my job. I promised that we were going to wake up the giant and we have done it together. It's a very nice goal accomplished."
Real Betis have operated with one of the smallest budgets in La Liga and over the past three seasons, since the coronavirus pandemic hit, the club has managed to make a net profit of over €40m while qualifying for European football and winning the Copa del Rey.
They are currently 5th in the table.
