Birmingham City have filled two key roles in their recruitment department, while fellow Championship club Reading have appointed a new Head of Scouting.
I have spoken before about the need to be creative when it comes to recruitment and these appointments ensure fresh impetus and ideas are added to the department.
Birmingham have appointed the experienced Frank McParland as Head of Recruitment and Joe Carnall as Chief Scout.
The two positions had been prioritised by Craig Gardner since he became Technical Director in June 2021, but only now has he received board approval to make the necessary changes.
McParland has worked for a host of UK clubs, including Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Burnley as Sporting Director, Rangers as Director of Recruitment and Liverpool as Academy Director.
Carnall returns to Birmingham City after working for the club's analysis team on two previous occasions and most recently held the position of First Team Technical Coach at Championship rivals Millwall.
Prior to this had been the Head of Tactical Insights and Head of Tactical Analysis at Stoke City and Derby County respectively.
Gardner said: “This is the next stage of improvements required to support the footballing department. Both Frank and Joe are experienced professionals and excellent at what they do. Recruitment is very important, and they will each bring impressive skills to help the club make further strides in this area.

Meanwhile, fellow Championship side Reading have appointed Jared Dublin as their new Head of Scouting.
Dublin joins from Sheffield United, where he spent almost six years in the player recruitment department.
