Henrik Jurelius has been sacked as Sporting Director of AIK Fotboll, the Swedish club has announced.

Henrik Jurelius has been a loyal employee of AIK Football for over 10 years and his work for the club should be highly valued. We have now come to the situation where we need to make a change in the leadership of the sporting activities for the men's team and I want to thank Henrik for his efforts for AIK Football.

The Stockholm-based club has named director Manuel Lindberg as interim Sporting Director until a permanent replacement is found.

Jurelius was previously assistant to Björn Wesström, and then stepped up as AIK Sporting Director in April 2020.

His exit comes after the club finished 5th in the 2022 Allsvenskan, meaning they missed out on European football for next season.

Robert Falcon, AIK Chairman, said: "Henrik Jurelius has been a loyal employee of AIK Football for over 10 years and his work for the club should be highly valued. We have now come to the situation where we need to make a change in the leadership of the sporting activities for the men's team and I want to thank Henrik for his efforts for AIK Football and the way he has represented us during his long time at the club."

Jurelius added: "I am grateful for the trust and responsibility that I have had to bear together with many competent colleagues, leaders and players during my years in AIK. I am also extremely grateful for all the support from my family, friends, colleagues and supporters when there are cold storms. Being able to be part of the development of AIK Football from the inside has been incredibly stimulating. I have loved every minute and will look back on the time with great pride."

Jurelius and AIK have found success on TransferRoom, having brought in Swedish international striker Jordan Larsson on loan after learning about his availability through the platform.
