Former Sweden international Ola Toivonen has begun his post-playing career, after being named Assistant Sporting Director at Malmö FF.
Being able to walk next to Daniel Andersson and see and learn the Sporting Director's job directly from him is very inspiring. There is no better person to learn from in Swedish football. At the same time, I want to contribute from day one with my perspective to help Malmö FF become even better.
Toivonen was signed by Malmö FF in 2007, and returned to the club in 2020, retiring in the autumn of 2022.
Now back at the Swedish Allsvenskan club, he will support Sporting Director Daniel Andersson, who has primary responsibility for the implementation of recruitment and sales.
Andersson had been Malmö FF Sporting Director between 2014 and 2021, returning to the position in January after Andreas Georgson moved to Technical Director.
Andersson said: "With his player experience, Ola will strengthen us in terms of knowledge right from the start, while in this way he gets time to get into another part of football. The fact that, in parallel with this, we can use Ola's player experience in direct connection with the A team feels like an ultimate solution."
Toivonen, capped 64 times by Sweden, added: "Being able to walk next to Daniel Andersson and see and learn the Sporting Director's job directly from him is very inspiring. There is no better person to learn from in Swedish football.
"At the same time, I want to contribute from day one with my perspective to help Malmö FF become even better. Alongside that, being on the field and sharing the knowledge and experience I have gained during my years as a player, feels like a perfect combination."
