On the Move
Technical Directors exit Heracles and FC Emmen
by Jack Hyom

Relegated Eredivisie club Heracles Almelo and FC Emmen, who will be replacing them in the Dutch top flight next season, have both announced the departures of key executives.

After the recent relegation, the board and I have come to the conclusion that we want to pave the way for a speedy return of the club to the Eredivisie.

Former Technical Director, Heracles Almelo

After finishing 16th in 2021-22, Heracles have parted company with Technical Director Tim Gilissen (main picture). The 39-year-old had been a member of Heracles' two-man board since 2019, and had been a player for the club at the start of his professional career.

“Over the past three years, I have made my substantive contribution to Heracles Almelo’s sporting successes with heart and soul,” Gilissen said. “There are many beautiful moments in this. After the recent relegation, the board and I have come to the conclusion that we want to pave the way for a speedy return of the club to the Eredivisie.”

Jansen leaves ahead of FC Emmen's return

Technical Manager Michel Jansen (pictured above, left) has left FC Emmen, after they were crowned Eerste Divisie champions this season.

Jansen had been with the club, who secured an instant return to the Dutch top-flight after a three-season spell in the Eredivisie ended in relegation in 2020-21, for 18 months.

Previously, he was Youth Academy Director at both SC Heerenveen and FC Twente.

In a statement, FC Emmen said: "The club management wishes to emphasise that they are grateful for Michel's contribution in the past season.

"Partly due to his part in the professionalisation of a number of disciplines within the club, various preconditions have been created which contributed to the championship being won last season. We wish Michel all the best in his further career."

The club will be redistributing his responsibilities without recruiting a replacement until at least the end of the 2022 Summer Transfer Window.
