Johannes Spors has been promoted to Sporting Director of 777 Football Group, the multi-club ownership group that features Genoa CFC and Sevilla FC in its portfolio.
I am very proud of the work we have done in this period at Genoa, and I am sure that Marco, with his skills, will lead Genoa to a successful future. I am really excited for this new opportunity and motivated to help all the clubs to achieve success for many years to come.
New multi-club job for Spors
Spors had been General Manager of Genoa since the start of 2022, having joined from Vitesse Arnhem along with his assistant Marcel Klos.
The German has now assumed the position of Sporting Director for 777 Football Group, overseeing all sporting operations at group level and working closely with the Sporting Directors of each club in the portfolio.
As well as Genoa, that includes Sevilla FC in Spain, Standard Liege in Belgium, Vasco da Gama in Brazil and Red Star FC in France.
It is a fitting role for Spors, who emphasised the importance of communication and teamwork within recruitment departments in an interview with TransferRoom while at Vitesse.
Spors will report to Don Dransfield, CEO of 777 Football Group, who joined in late May after 10 years at City Football Group, another multi-club ownership operation.
Genoa swoop for Juventus' loan chief
Spors' move to 777, the US investment fund who bought Genoa in September 2021, has led the Italian club to make a change following his departure.
Marco Ottolini has been appointed as their new Sporting Director. He is the successor to Carlo Taldo, who left the club at the end of the 2021-22 season and has joined Brescia Calcio in the same role.
Spors said: "I am very proud of the work we have done in this period at Genoa, and I am sure that Marco with his skills will lead Genoa to a successful future. I am really excited for this new opportunity and motivated to help all the clubs. to achieve success for many years to come."
Ottolini moves from his role as Loan Manager at Juventus, with Genoa preparing for a Serie B campaign following their relegation from Italy's top tier.
He joined Juventus as a Scout in 2018 from Anderlecht, where he held the same position, and was named Loan Manager ahead of the 2021-22 season after Claudio Chiellini joined Pisa as Sporting Director.
