Planes (pictured), who was appointed Technical Director in 2018, was due to be in the position until at least June 30, 2022, but Barcelona said they have agreed to his request to depart early.

In a statement, the LaLiga club said: "The club wishes to publicly express its gratitude to Ramón Planes for his commitment, professionalism and contributions throughout this last two years, and wishes him the best of luck and every success in the future."

Planes was appointed during the previous regime led by former President Josep Maria Bartomeu, but was given a contract extension by his successor Joan Laporta earlier this year.

He is credited with the arrivals of players like Pedri and Ronald Araujo, as well as the development of new homegrown talents like Gavi.

Planes is a highly experienced Sporting Director, having held the post at the likes of Getafe, Rayo Vallecano, Elche, Espanyol and Alaves during is career.
