SC Cambuur have already began planning for the 2023-24 season, with Etiënne Reijnen to join the club as Technical Director.
With the new stadium approaching, we are entering the next phase as a club and that also includes a different interpretation of the technical positions. With Etiënne we bring in someone with new ideas, content and energy.
Reijnen (pictured) has signed a four-year contract at Cambuur, and will join at the end of the season from PEC Zwolle, where he is currently assistant manager.
He will succeed Foeke Booy as Technical Director. Booy has been in the post since the start of 2018 and oversaw their promotion to the Eredivisie as Eerste Divisie champions in 2021.
The club are currently bottom of Eredivisie.
Reijnen, 35, played one season with Cambuur, back in 2014-15 as the captain, and also represented AZ Alkmaar, FC Groningen, Maccabi Haifa and PEC during his career.
Cambuur Chairman Ronald Spoelstra said: “With the new stadium approaching, we are entering the next phase as a club and that also includes a different interpretation of the technical positions. With Etiënne we bring in someone with new ideas, content and energy.
“We still know Etiënne well from his period as a player and have closely followed his development in recent years. He has all the qualities and we are convinced that this role will suit him perfectly. Add that to the expertise we already have in-house in this area, and we aim for a successful and long-term collaboration.”
Booy, who helped Cambuur finish ninth in the 2021-22 top-flight campaign, said: “I am sorry that this decision has been made, because I would have liked to continue at this great club. As for the future, I am experienced and ambitious to continue my work elsewhere in football.”
