Oviedo promote Suárez to Director of Football
by Jack Hyom

Roberto Suárez has been named as Real Oviedo's new Director of Football, earning a promotion from his previous position as Technical Secretary.

"The former Real Oviedo player has a deep knowledge of the club, right the way through from the youth teams up to the first-team squad. He will now begin work as Director of Football, bringing continuity to the important work which is being done by his working staff, and leading Grupo Pachuca's project for the club.

Suárez, who played for Oviedo from 1993-1998, retired in 2017 and returned to the Spanish club to work at their Academy.

He has progressed from working with various youth teams at Oviedo to the first-team set-up, taking up the Technical Secretary position in June 2021.

"The former Real Oviedo player has a deep knowledge of the club, right the way through from the youth teams up to the first-team squad," the club said in a statement.

"Having occupied the role of Technical Secretary up until now, he will now begin work as Director of Football, bringing continuity to the important work which is being done by his working staff, and leading Grupo Pachuca's project for the club.

"Homegrown talent plays a key role in the project, as part of the philosophy which the Group brings to each of its new endeavours."
