Marc Overmars is the new Technical Director of Royal Antwerp, a little over a month after the Dutchman left Ajax over inappropriate behaviour towards female colleagues.
I want to turn the Ajax page and start a new chapter here. My departure from Ajax was unfortunate. I have to overcome that and move on, that’s what I’m going to do now. What happened at Ajax had no influence on my discussions with Antwerp, which went well. It will not happen again,
Overmars, 48, had been Ajax Director of Football since 2012 and had signed a new contract to 2026 shortly before leaving the club.
Overmars has now signed a four-year contract at Antwerp, and is the successor to Luciano d'Onofrio.
He said: “I want to turn the Ajax page and start a new chapter here. My departure from Ajax was unfortunate. I have to overcome that and move on, that’s what I’m going to do now. What happened at Ajax had no influence on my discussions with Antwerp, which went well. It will not happen again.”
Sven Jacques, Antwerp’s General Manager, said: “It is important to give people new opportunities and to turn the page.”
