New role for Kelly as LaBue named President of Charlotte FC
by Jonathan Rest

Charlotte FC have named a new President ahead of their Major League Soccer debut, with Joe LaBue replacing Nick Kelly.

Nick and Joe are talented, passionate executives and I look forward to continuing to work closely with them as we strengthen our organization and build winning teams for our fans. We thank Tom for his many contributions to the organization and wish him and his family the best.
David Tepper
Owner, Tepper Sports & Entertainment

Kelly (pictured), a former senior executive at the Anheuser-Busch InBev brewing giant, had been in the job since December 2020, but has now been promoted to CEO of Tepper Sports & Entertainment, the group that owns Charlotte FC and the NFL's Carolina Panthers.

LaBue has been with TSE for 10 years, having began as a sales manager for the Panthers, and most recently Vice-President of ticket sales and services.

This is his first role in soccer, having previously worked for the NFL's Washington Football Team, and managed corporate sponsorships for Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which operates NHL's Washington Capitals and NBA's Wizards.

LaBue, who will handle Carolina FC’s business operations, will report to Kelly, as will Sporting director Zoran Krneta.

In January Carolina FC announced that Technical Director Marc Nicholls was leaving the franchise to take up the same role at Columbus Crew.

Charlotte FC will make their MLS debut on February 26 at DC United.

Owner David Tepper said: "Nick and Joe are talented, passionate executives and I look forward to continuing to work closely with them as we strengthen our organization and build winning teams for our fans. We thank Tom for his many contributions to the organization and wish him and his family the best."
