KV Mechelen have named their former player Tim Matthys, currently Anderlecht's Head of Scouting, as Sporting Director.
Tim fits perfectly into the profile we had set: an ex-pro football player with experience in the field. Furthermore, his calm and serene character also fits what we were looking for and what we think the club needs.
Matthys will officially join from fellow Belgian top-flight club Anderlecht on December 1, and succeeds Tom Caluwé, who has joined the league's champions Club Brugge as Sports Manager.
The 38-year-old played five seasons for Mechelen and when he retired he became Chief Scout at the club. He was a Scout and then Sporting Director at KAA Gent, before joining Anderlecht in December 2021.
Matthys said: "I am very proud and happy that I can come back to KV... I hope to continue the good work Tom Caluwé has done here."
Frank Lagast, CEO of Mechelen, added: "Tim fits perfectly into the profile we had set: an ex-pro football player with experience in the field. Furthermore, his calm and serene character also fits what we were looking for and what we think the club needs."
