LASK 'legend' Vujanovic named Sporting Director
by Jonathan Rest

LASK have moved quickly to fill their Sporting Director void, appointing Radovan Vujanovic, a former striker with the Austrian Bundesliga club.

After reaching a European group stage for the third time , we decided, based on our experience, to separate the office of coach and that of the sports director from an organisational point of view . After an intensive search and many discussions, we decided on a LASK legend. Radovan knows the club, its values and goals and will live them.

It is a considerable promotion for the 39-year-old, who was most recently Sporting Director at ASKÖ Oedt, of Austria's fourth-tier.

However, Vujanovic has strong links with LASK having scored 69 goals in 92 games for the club between 2012 and 2015.

Vujanovic said: "I see myself as an absolute team player. I want to support players, coaches and the executive committee. I know the structure of the club. For me it is an affair of the heart and not just work.

"I would like to lead the way as a role model, give 100% for LASK and ensure that everyone here has the opportunity to perform at their best every day. I will be there a lot for this, have many conversations, take responsibility and support everyone who needs me."

His appointment came a week after LASK fired Manager Dominik Thalhammer, who also doubled up as Sporting Director.

The club had been wanting to split the roles for some time, and had been looking for a specific Sporting Director regardless of Thalhammer's future.

Thalhammer had only been at the club since the start of the 2020-21 season, in which the club finished fourth and lost the final of the Austrian Cup to RB Salzburg. LASK are competing in this year's UEFA Europa Conference League.
