LAFC swoop for Garcés as first Director of Football Operations
by Jonathan Rest

Los Angeles FC have appointed Marco Antonio Garcés as their first Director of Football Operations.

It is incredibly exciting to add a football mind like Marco to our team. His extensive experience in building arguably the most productive academy in North America at Pachuca and his expertise in scouting will add great value to LAFC.

Co-President & General Manager, LAFC

Garcés joins LAFC after 11 years at Liga MX's Pachuca, where he served the last seven years as Sporting Director. He was previously a Chief Scout and Director of Football and Sports Sciences at the club.

John Thorrington, Co-President and General Manager of LAFC, said: “It is incredibly exciting to add a football mind like Marco to our team. His extensive experience in building arguably the most productive academy in North America at Pachuca and his expertise in scouting will add great value to LAFC.”

LAFC debuted in MLS in 2018.

Garcés added: “I look forward to bringing my mix of experience working with Mexican and European players of all ages to Los Angeles. From what I have already seen, I know the future is bright for LAFC, and I am eager to start helping the club achieve its ambitious goals.”

During his time at Pachuca, the club won the league in 2016 and Conacaf Champions League a year later, while Garcés was an essential part of the academy and oversaw the big transfers of players like Hirving Lozano and Erick Gutierrez to PSV Eindhoven and of Hector Herrera to FC Porto.

Before joining Pachuca, Garcés had worked in the academy of Liverpool FC and as a scout for Manchester United in North America and the Caribbean.
