Janmaat begins post-playing career as ADO Technical Director
by Jonathan Rest

Former Netherlands international Daryl Janmaat has been appointed Technical Director of ADO Den Haag, following his surprise decision to end his playing career.

My ambition was to remain active in the football world, but in a different role. When I was given the opportunity to fulfill this position at ADO Den Haag, I did not have to hesitate for long. In this position I will be able to put my experiences from the football world and the network I have built up during my professional career to good use. This is an ideal step for me."

The 32-year-old has spent the last 18 months with ADO following his release from Watford FC but barely played because of injury. The 37-cap Dutch international actually started his career with ADO.

Janmaat actually had one year left on his playing contract but will now embark on the next stage of his career, and will work closely with former international team-mate Dirk Kuyt, the new Head Coach of ADO, in what represents an inexperienced management pair at the second division club.

Janmaat said: "My ambition was to remain active in the football world, but in a different role. When I was given the opportunity to fulfill this position at ADO Den Haag, I did not have to hesitate for long.

"In this position I will be able to put my experiences from the football world and the network I have built up during my professional career to good use. This is an ideal step for me."

He will report to General Manager Edwin Reijntjes and Ignacio Beristain. the CEO of Club Owner David Blitzer's Bolt Football Holdings, which also includes Waasland-Beveren in Belgium, Estoril Praia in Portugal and AD Alcorcón in Spain. Blitzer himself has stakes in Crystal Palace and FC Augsburg.

Janmaat will be the first permanent executive to have control over transfer operations at ADO since Jeffrey van As resigned as Director of Football in January 2020. Director of Youth Development Albert van der Dussen held the position on an interim basis until February of this year, after which Reijntjes and Beristain have handled recruitment.
