Julien Gorius has been dismissed as Sporting Director of RWD Molenbeek, the Belgian second division club has announced.
It is with a heavy heart that I share the departure of Julien. Julien, a real clubman. You helped us grow professionally and in my opinion you have your place in all the clubs of the Pro League.
Gorius (pictured) had been in the position since October 2020 and his exit is considered a surprise, with RWDM sitting third in the second tier.
It was the 37-year-old Frenchman's first job in football since retiring as a player with OH Leuven in 2019.
The decision to sack Gorius was made by Eagle Football Holdings, the ownership group headed up by American businessman John Textor, which also owns France's Olympique Lyonnais, Brazil's Botafogo and a minority stake in English Premier League club Crystal Palace.
In a statement, Eagle Football said: "RWDM would like to thank Julien for his professionalism and all the positive things he has brought to the club."
RWDM President Thierry Dailly: "It is with a heavy heart that I share the departure of Julien. Julien, a real clubman. You helped us grow professionally and in my opinion you have your place in all the clubs of the Pro League."
