Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt have ended their search for a Sporting Director by promoting Head of First-Team Football Timmo Hardung into the position.
He knows the professional game from different roles and has got to know Eintracht as Head of First-Team Football over the past two years. In the process, he has already played an active role in a number of player transfers. We’re fully confident that Timmo will be able to contribute his qualities and abilities as Sporting Director thanks to several years’ experience in the professional game.
The 33-year-old, pictured above, has been in his role since July 2021, helping the club win the UEFA Europa League in 2021-22.
The Sporting Director post had been vacant since Bruno Hübner left the club in 2021, but Hardung will take it on from 1 July 2023.
The key appointment also comes after Director of Football Ben Manga departed for English Championship side Watford FC in December 2022.
Hardung's move up has resulted in another internal position, with current Team Manager Christoph Preuß succeeding him as Head of First-Team Football.
Hardung, the Head of First-Team Football at RB Leipzig for two years before he joined Eintracht, was previously Team Manager at TSG Hoffenheim.
Speaking of Hardung's appointment, Board Member for Sport Markus Krösche said: "He knows the professional game from different roles and has got to know Eintracht as Head of First-Team Football over the past two years.
"In the process, he has already played an active role in a number of player transfers. We’re fully confident that Timmo will be able to contribute his qualities and abilities as Sporting Director thanks to several years’ experience in the professional game."
Hardung added: “The trust placed in me by the entire management is an incentive to keep creating the framework, together with our team, to help us be the best we can be.
"Eintracht Frankfurt is a great club with a very professional set-up and a long tradition. I look forward to helping us continue the positive development of recent years.”
